Description

Crispy, golden Hush Puppies are a delightful Southern treat perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

  • 1 box Jiffy cornbread mix
  • ½ cup grated onion
  • 5 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • ¼ cup panko bread crumbs
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Combine the Jiffy cornbread mix with the grated onion in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Whisk together the buttermilk and the beaten egg in a separate bowl.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  4. Add panko bread crumbs, all-purpose flour, salt, black pepper, and baking powder to the mixture.
  5. Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches around 350°F.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, frying until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  7. Remove the hush puppies and drain them on paper towels.
  8. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
